HIS Excellency, President Donald Ramotar has announced his intention to visit Linden today, to meet the residents and civic stakeholders from the community. The Regional Chairman is expected to cooperate with the security forces in removing all obstructions on the roads and bridges.
The President emphasised that the Linden community, as all Guyanese, have the right to protest and represent their issues and concerns in a peaceful and law-abiding manner, but his administration will not tolerate the blockage of roads and bridges leading into and through any community.
He stated that the government has exercised great restraint and patience and was constructive in the many meetings with political party leaders in APNU and the AFC, the regional stakeholders and the Private Sector Commission over the last 10 days. Sadly, he declared that despite those efforts, the blockage has continued for 10 days.
President Ramotar has informed the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. David Granger, and the Regional Chairman of the Regional Democratic Council of Region 10, Mr. Sharma Solomon, of his decision to visit the Linden township.
Furthermore, the President yesterday instructed the Joint Services to remove all barricades blocking the roads and bridges in order to allow unfettered ingress and egress through the Linden township.
Preparations are now in train for the President’s visit.
