MINISTER of Public Works, Mr. Robeson Benn has congratulated the manager, and workers of the Demerara Harbour Bridge for their tireless effort “without letup,” to repair a damaged section of the western end of the structure. Over the last two days, the damage caused discomfort to many commuters and motorists.
Around 06:45 hrs, on July 23, one of the temporary pontoons sank resulting in the subsequent spans being submerged and, since then the bridge’s staff have been working tirelessly, battling the tides to complete the repairs.
“We want to again reiterate our regrets that the discomfiture which this caused the travelling public was one which we would not have anticipated,” Minister Benn said.
