TWENTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD Vincent Dennis Vandenburgh, who was charged with the murder of Lord Edwards called Junior and Rasta, reappeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court yesterday, on a narcotic possession charge. The remanded prisoner was, allegedly, found with four grammes of cannabis (marijuana) whilst being an inmate at the New Amsterdam Prison.
Before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, he was further remanded until August 24.
Police Corporal Roberto Figueira, prosecuting, said, on June 12, prison officials were conducting random searches when Vandenburgh was observed acting in a suspicious manner, with a bandana around his neck.
The kerchief, when removed and opened in his presence, was found to contain leaves, seeds and stems of the prohibited plant, the prosecutor said.
Before then, the accused was charged with unlawfully killing Edwards, a labourer, during a fracas on April 5, at an East Bank Berbice location.
His addresses then were given as Lot 523 Philadelphia Street, LFS Burnham Street and Tucber Park, all in New Amsterdam but he was taken, a week later, to Central Police Station by attorney-at-law Mr. Mursulene Bacchus.
