WPO disappointed with seeking to prevent Ms. Geetanjali Singh from functioning

THE Women’s Progressive Organisation (WPO) has said is deeply disappointed with those organisations and individuals who are seeking to prevent Mrs. Geetanjali Singh from functioning in the position of Audit Director a position which she obtained through her qualification and service.
“These critics are seeking to make Mrs. Singh into a political football. It is well established that Mrs. Singh started her career at the Office of the Auditor General some 20 years ago; and has made all the sacrifice to upgrade and improved her qualifications to the point where she is among the most qualified,” a WPO press statement said.
According to the organization, Ms. Singh was functioning as one of three Audit Director (Acting) since 2005 and at no time did the PAC under the leadership of the late Winston Murray or Ms. Volda Lawrence made any objections to her position. How come her role and position is being questioned now by the new PAC Chair who is seeking to present a conflict of interest situation where none exists.
The statement added that it is also public knowledge that the Minister of Finance assumed that portfolio in 2006 some 14 years after Mrs. Singh was already working in the Office of the Auditor General both under the present and past post holders. Persons who have worked and are working with Mrs. Geetanjali Singh have great respect for her professional conduct and expertise.
“Why are the critics picking on such a deserving professional? Is it because of the office her husband holds?  Their position reveals a detestable attitude of discrimination against deserving women,” the WPO queried
“The WPO condemns these gender biased critics and expresses its congratulations to Ms. Geetanjali Singh. We wish her continued success in her position which was not handed on a platter but by the dint of hard work and personal sacrifice,” the WPO stressed.
