Two months after… POLICE REACH SNAG IN DIAMOND TAXI DRIVER MURDER PROBE

POLICE have reached a snag in their investigations into the murder of taxi driver Rajendra Puran who was beaten and robbed of his Raum almost two months ago, Crime Chief Seelall Persaud reported yesterday. The Deputy Commissioner said there have been no further developments after several persons were detained for questioning but were freed or put on station bail.
The victim’s white Toyota vehicle, number HB 9875, in which the 40-year-old left his home, is still to be located.
Puran, 40, of Lot 1296 Section ‘C’, Block ‘Y’, Diamond, East Bank Demerara, was found in a drain at Logwood, Enmore, East Coast Demerara, on May 3, 2012.
A post mortem examination, performed on May 4, revealed that he died from manual strangulation and blunt trauma to the head.
Detectives who went to the scene, from where his body was recovered, said his death might have been as a result of a robbery/hijacking that was committed elsewhere before his body was dumped at the Enmore location.
His remains were bound and gagged, with marks of violence on his face, outside Lot 71 Red Road, Logwood, Enmore.
