In the interim… ARMOGAN ANNOUNCES FILLING OF EAST BANK POTHOLES

CHAIRMAN of Region Six (East Berbice/Corentyne), Mr. David Armogan, alluding to the issue of the impassable East Bank Road, said that works will be undertaken in the Lightown to Mara area, shortly. Responding to a protest, earlier last week, he told the Guyana Chronicle that the rehabilitation of the main thoroughfare is a huge task and, as such, it would be undertaken by the Ministry of Public Works, from which machinery is already parked in the compound of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) Office, in Vryman’s Erven, New Amsterdam.
However, in the interim, due to the condition of the route, the Regional Administration has contracted Kris Jagdeo, who will undertake the task of having the several potholes filled, Armogan announced.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday last, scores of residents blocked the lone access to the East Bank after a lorry got stuck in one of the many holes, hindering the free flow of traffic.
The protesters, highlighting their ongoing grievance to the visiting Vice-Chairman, Mr. Bhopaul Jhagroo, asked what could be done in an emergency.
“If someone needs to be taken, urgently, to the hospital, what should we do? Or if thieves attack, how quickly can the police come, seeing that this road is impassible?” they enquired.
The protesting group said they would like to be involved in the consultations with the contractor, so as to ensure value for money.
