At Berbice Assizes… WIFE ON TRIAL FOR KILLING HUSBAND – court case resumes today

THE trial of Thakumarie, who is indicted at the Berbice Assizes, for the unlawful killing of her husband Yodha (one name given, as well) will resume today. It had been adjourned after the report that Government Pathologist Dr. Vivikanand Brijmohan was on sick leave and efforts to secure the intervention of another registered medical practitioner were initiated.
State Prosecutor Rhondel Weaver, in her opening address, last June 28, revealed that the accused and the deceased had lived together for some 40 years at Lot 50 Bennett Dam, Rosignol, West Bank Berbice.
On April 27, 2008, the brother of the victim, Charrandann Maiku went to the home of his older sibling and saw him lying on the ground with what appeared to be blood on his hands.
Maiku returned there later that day and observed that his brother was in a different position and appearing to be dead, and his lifeless body was taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital where the official pronouncement was made.
The prosecutor said a post mortem  revealed that death was due to shock, haemorrhage and multiple incised wounds.
