Son placed on year’s bond for threatening mother

VREED–EN-HOOP Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, on Tuesday last, placed 26-year-old Richard Boodhoo of Lot 18, Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara on a one-year bond after his mother, Loren Banarsee, told the court she was sorry for her son, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of threatening behaviour. Banarsee told the court that Boodhoo had been under the influence of alcohol when he  threatened her, and she now regretted her action in involving the police.
After Banarsee’s explanation, the magistrate requested Boodhoo to apologise to, and hug, his mother, and he complied. She also warned Boodhoo that a 10-week term of imprisonment awaited him if he should recommit the offence.
The magistrate also ordered Banarsee to pay costs of $10,000.
