Magistrate grants burglary accused bail over police objection

MAGISTRATE Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday overruled a police objection and granted bail to Moses Mootoo, of Lot 7 Riverview, Ruimveldt, Georgetown. The accused is charged, indictably, with break and enter and larceny and particulars of the July 9 offence said it was committed at the dwelling house of Ganesh Kissoon, from where a $6,500 pressure was stolen.
Police Sergeant Alexis David-Hossanah, prosecuting, had objected to the grant of pre-trial freedom for Mootoo, telling the court he had been seen jumping the virtual complainant’s fence with the booty in his possession.
However, the magistrate set surety at $75,000 until July 23.
