THE body of a man who went missing on Friday last was discovered in a shallow grave last evening at 14th Street, Foulis, on the East Coast of Demerara. The deceased, Gangaram Bharat, 51, of 10th Street foulis, was discovered in a shallow grave behind the home of a 14th Street resident around 16:00hrs yesterday by his sister, who became suspicious, since the man was last seen imbibing at that location.
According to the visibly distraught woman, she last spoke to her brother on Wednesday last, when he visited at her Duchfour, Anns Grove, East Coast Demerara residence. During that visit, Gangaram had indicated to her that known persons wanted to kill him for the land he now occupies, and at which he does his farming. She said that she told him to leave the land alone and return to his native Ann’s Grove.

Subsequent enquiries with family members as far as Berbice did not yield any sign of the man.
Checks at 14th Street Foulis also proved futile, but yielded an eerie atmosphere, and claims by residents that the couple who resides at the 14th Street address where the man was last seen imbibing, had hurriedly packed their bags and rushed from the premises.
Becoming suspicious, the now dead man’s relative made a report at the Enmore Police Station, resulting in the lawmen visiting the 14th Street address. They were immediately greeted with a stench and decided to remove the dirt from a recently dug-out area at the back of the yard, where the man’s body was discovered protruding from a shallow grave.
His body was later removed by the police and taken to the Lyken Funeral home.
