VETERAN table tennis players who are affiliated to the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) will be involved in a tournament that is organised by the governing body, next Monday, at the National Gymnasium. The deadline for entries is Friday June 29 and must be sent to the GTTA, with the qualifying players being 40 years and older, 45 years and over open, 50 years and over open, 55 years and over open and 60 years and over open.
The singles events will be played in two stages. Groups will play the round robin format. The first two players of each group will qualify for the final stage. In the finals, it will be four-best in seven games.
Meanwhile, the Business School-sponsored Mini-Cadet, Cadet, and Junior teams’ table tennis tournament will run from Friday to Sunday at the National Gymnasium as well.
It will be run on a round robin basis, with the top four teams in each division contesting the semifinals and, according to a press release, the GTTA will provide umpires, tables, and balls among other resources to ensure the smooth running of the tournament.
Trophies and medals will be awarded to the first three finishers in each category, the most outstanding player (male and female), most improved player (male and female), the best dressed school, and the most disciplined school for both competitions. An admission fee of $500 per person will be charged.
