AT A simple handing-over ceremony held yesterday morning at the Body Max Fitness Gym on Croal Street, physical trainer Ashton Boyle made a donation of an undisclosed amount to coordinator of the Inter-Ministry/Corporation football tournament Mark Young. The partnership was realised through the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport’s ‘Fitness for Life’ policy and similar to Body Max Fitness Gym’s policy in creating an atmosphere and facility for the public to come and exercise for at least an hour daily to keep their bodies healthy.
Young, in receiving the donation, expressed thanks to the entity for partnering with the tournament which he hopes will see the players take up the opportunity to seek a healthier lifestyle.
In his brief remarks, Boyle expressed thanks for the opportunity to be a part of the sponsorship team for the tournament which forms part of the fitness for life programme in a similar exercising programme and wished all the teams still participating in the tournament more success.
Meanwhile, in the latest round of action at the Banks DIH Thirst Park ground, Ministry of Education defeated Ministry of Foreign Affairs 5-2, with goals from Robert David, (5th, 7th), Chriswell Williams (9th), Steve Darlington (18th) and Kurt Braithwaite (20th) and Gavin De Costa converting in the 28th and 29th minutes for the losers.
In the second match Guyana Revenue Authority edged Guyana Power and Light 4-3 with goals from Lionel Grimes (6th, 15th), Carlos Monkhouse (10th) and Rommel Squires (24th) while Ken Agard (5th, 6th) and Kenneth Jackson (24th) scored for the losers.
In other matches, Guyana National Shipping Corporation (GNSC) defeated J&S Electrical 5-2, with Stellon David (28th, 29th), Sherwin Fraser (3rd), A. Glen 13th and Dellon Cadogan 14th finding the back of the net for the victors.
J&S got their goals from Devon Alfred and Lance Claxton who scored in the 12th and 70th minutes respectively, while Lionel Jackson’s first-minute strike was enough to give Media United a 1-0 win over MCYS.
The action continues tomorrow night from 19:00hrs, with three more matches involving John Fernandes Limited who will oppose Ministry of Education, GPL take on Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company and J&S Electrical meet Ministry of Public Works.
