Shop customer fined $15,000 for unlawful wounding

ROGER Raghubir (no address given) was fined $15,000 with the alternative of 10 days imprisonment yesterday, on conviction for unlawful wounding. He appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton and pleaded guilty to having, on June 10, in Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown, unlawfully wounded Amanda Daniels.
Police Corporal Simone Payne, prosecuting, said the defendant had gone to the shop where the virtual complainant works and threatened to beat her.
According to the prosecutor, Raghubir purchased some alcoholic beverages and sat not far from her, prior to going and cuff her two times on her chin, causing injury.
Raghubir claimed he would, usually, give Daniels money whenever he goes to the shop and, that day, she kicked him and his hand swung and hit her.
He said it was a ring on one of his fingers which scratched the woman on her chin.
