Teenaged schoolgirl goes into hiding

– after mother finds her out lying
ABEKIE Patterson, 15, of Lot 27 Bagotville, West Bank Demerara, has been missing since Thursday after leaving her mother’s workplace in the city for home.
Yesterday, her father, James Patterson, asked the Chronicle’s assistance in appealing to his daughter to return home, or just visit his workplace, as she often does. He promised that everything would be alright.
It was after a spat with her mother that the teen, accompanied by an aunt, was placed into a minibus headed for home; but she never arrived there, since telephone calls to the residence went unanswered.
Patterson, a Chronicle employee, is concerned about his daughter’s welfare, and is urging members of the public who may have knowledge about the girl’s whereabouts to kindly contact him immediately on telephone numbers 650-6188 or 227-7007.
He said Abekie, who attends Charlestown Secondary School, failed to show up at home since she had lied to her mother about her reason for journeying to Georgetown last Thursday, stating that she had an assignment to finish.
But after her mother called the school and spoke to a teacher, it was confirmed that exams were ongoing at school and no assignments were pending. She was consequently ordered to return home.
Patterson explained that his daughter may have been afraid to return home, since her mother was angry and may have dealt with her for lying, when she returned home from work.
Nevertheless, the man is begging his daughter to return to him as soon as possible, and not to be afraid and go to a friend’s residence.
