Taxi driver Puran murder…

One suspect in custody, others being hunted

ONE suspect remained in custody yesterday, as police continued questioning him about the murder of taxi driver Rajendra Puran called Rajesh, 40.
However, up to pres time, others were being hunted as the investigations continued.
The man being detained, who hails from Grove, was arrested on Tuesday following the brutal killing of Puran, who lived at Lot 1296 Section ‘C’, Block ‘Y’, Diamond, also on East Bank Demerara.
The mutilated, bound and gagged body of the victim was found at Red Road, Logwood, Enmore, East Coast Demerara, on May 3.
Crime Chief Seelall Persaud told the Guyana Chronicle, on Tuesday, that the police are looking for several more suspects. They are following some leads and are hoping for a breakthrough in the probe.
A post mortem revealed that Puran died of manual strangulation and blunt trauma to the head.
Up to yesterday, his white ‘Toyota Raum’ vehicle, HB 9875 was still missing and police believe he may have been the victim of a May 2 robbery/hijacking.
