Cop faces charge of stealing BlackBerry from colleague

A POLICE constable appeared in Court yesterday, charged with stealing a BlackBerry cell phone from a colleague at Felix Austin Training College, Eve Leary, Georgetown. Richard Williams pleaded not guilty to the offence before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, where it was alleged that the larceny, of the instrument valued $65,000 and belonging to Glen Mc Lean, took place between September 26 and 27, 2011.
Defence Counsel Patrice Henry, requesting reasonable bail, said the defendant is a serving member of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and the theft, allegedly, occurred while he was in the college.
The lawyer said Williams has an unblemished record.
Police Sergeant Tracymay Gittens, prosecuting, had no objection to the grant and the Court set surety at $50,000 until May 21.
