– recover stolen service revolver
POLICE report that at about 21:15hrs on Thursday, May 03 last, a police constable was driving a motor car along the Crab Island Public Road in Berbice, with two men whom he had picked up at Ogle, East Coast Demerara, when one of the men requested that the vehicle stop for him to urinate. When the car was stopped, the other man, who was in the rear seat, pulled out a knife and stuck-up the cop.
The constable reacted and managed to discharge rounds from his service pistol, causing the man outside of the car to run away.
Simultaneously, the policeman accelerated the vehicle, but lost control and crashed into a concrete structure, which left him dazed.
Consequently, the man who was still in the vehicle took away the rank’s service firearm and escaped into the nearby bushes.
The man who had run away earlier was subsequently arrested by the police in the vicinity of the Berbice River Bridge; and at about 14:10hrs on Friday, police apprehended the other suspect among the bushes on Crab Island, and the firearm was recovered.
Both suspects are in police custody, and charges will be made shortly.
