TWO persons were hospitalised with injuries after a bandit attacked a Number 19, Corentyne, Berbice home/business place, on Tuesday night. Police said they are investigating the armed robbery that occurred at about 19:30hrs, during which businessman Shivlall Sherkissoon, 39, was attacked by five men, one armed with a shotgun.
Police said their investigations revealed that Sherkissoon operates a grocery shop in the lower flat of his house and, at the time, was conversing with his uncle, Sooklall Sherkissoon, when they were confronted by the perpetrators.
The gunman stood guard at the gate while the others held up the two Sherkissoons and demanded cash and jewellery.
The Sherkissoon men managed to escape and the attackers then proceeded into the house where they robbed a niece, Keisha Mohabir, of gold jewellery valued $400,000.
While escaping, the robbers discharged several rounds indiscriminately, injuring, on her shoulder, Bibi Hassan, 62, a neighbour, who was on her verandah and Mahendra Dharma, 19, another relative of the Sherkissoons, who suffered injury to both legs.
They have been admitted patients at New Amsterdam Hospital, also in Berbice, police said.
