Mayor tells vendors he is fed-up

CITY Mayor Hamilton Green, on Thursday, expressed frustration at ever-present piles of garbage around Georgetown, especially in areas where vendors operate. The mayor met with several push cart vendors who requested a meeting with him following the seizure of their carts by city constables on Wednesday evening.
Mayor Green told the vendors that he is tired of getting bad name as he tries to accommodate them, and they insist on leaving piles of garbage behind them.
The vendors had requested the meeting with the mayor to seek his help in repossessing their carts which were being held until they pay $7,500 to the City Engineer’s Department.

Green told the vendors that millions are being spent to keep the city clean, and it’s unfair for them to be plying their trade and not paying to have their garbage removed.
He reminded the vendors that he had spoken to them on several occasions about keeping their surroundings clean and environmentally friendly, and all they do is make empty promises to him.
The mayor said that when he travels around the city what he sees is disgusting. The vendors, on Thursday and yesterday,  were still trying come to an agreement with the council on the price they should pay to repossess their carts.
