Former Police Commissioner Greene hospitalized on mother’s funeral day

FORMER Police Commissioner Henry Greene has fallen ill, and has been hospitalised following his mother’s funeral in Georgetown yesterday. He was rushed to a private hospital, and his condition is undisclosed. The former top cop has had health-related issues and had been in the hospital before. His latest hospitalization occurred last year when he had to repair a ruptured blood vessel in his foot. He had resumed duties as Commissioner.
Greene collapsed while preparing for his mother’s funeral in the city yesterday, and had to be conveyed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital for immediate medical attention for what is believed to be heart complications.
Green’s mother passed away in the United States of America, and her body was brought to Guyana for burial following a church service that he was unable to attend because of his health condition.
The former Police Commissioner retired in April this year by way of a letter to President Donald Ramotar, following calls for him to step down after he had successfully ‘blocked prosecution’ for allegedly raping a woman who went to him for help.
During an interview with the media after the alleged rape allegation had surfaced, Greene told reporters that he had consensual sex with the woman in question, but that admission sparked a massive outcry by citizens for him to resign as Commissioner of Police.
Up to press time, Greene’s condition was being closely guarded, and was being monitored by medical personnel.
