Something needs to be done about Georgetown

I HAVE just returned from a delightful visit to your country. Of course I did not see all of the country as I spent most of the time in Georgetown. During my school days I used to hear of the place, its high standard of education, the bauxite-mining, the gold, the many rivers, the cricketers, the agriculture etcetera. As I grew up I have met many citizens whom I have admired. Of course I have heard of the crime, maybe exaggerated as there is crime all over the world, so when I planned my visit to your country I was enthused, for at last I would see for myself things and places and the people that I have always heard of.
What I was not told about was the amount of garbage all over the place. Other countries have garbage which is also a sight, but to see garbage and grass in the water ways blocking the free flow of the water, and also seeing this garbage in the streets left a poor and lasting impression on me. The only overriding impression is the friendliness of the people. But how could they and the authorities be so complacent about the garbage?  What is being done? Are they not aware that visitors would carry a poor impression of Georgetown, the capital of such a beautiful country-one with potential? Something needs to be done and quickly too.
