PLEASE allow me space in your letters column of the Guyana Chronicle to air my views on the recent move by the opposition in parliament.
As an Amerindian, I am very disappointed over the manner in which the combined parliamentary opposition (APNU & AFC) dealt with the 2012 national budget. I did not vote for either of the APNU or AFC because, in my view, I recognised that these parties cannot manage the affairs of our country, and it was exactly what came to pass.
Also, I told many Amerindians that they will deeply regret voting either for APNU or the AFC. Let me say that many Amerindians of my community are now saying that they have made a terrible mistake and they have regretted it. The combined opposition showed clearly that they have a vendetta against the government and they are ‘Power Hungry’ political creatures who do not care about the poor people of our country, since they voted without a conscience for budgetary cuts which have thrown many of my fellow Guyanese into the breadline, including thousands of hinterland Amerindians who were waiting patiently for the implementation of projects under the Low Carbon Development strategy (LCDS). In this connection, many Amerindians are saying that APNU and the AFC are worst than beasts and that these parties do not care about their welfare, only their votes at elections time. The fact is that Amerindians who voted for either the APNU or AFC feel betrayed and they are describing the Amerindian MPs of these parties as mere traitors who should now cover their heads in shame for betraying their fellow Amerindians. Mr. Editor, people like Sidney Allicock, Dr. George Norton, Valerie Garrido-Lowe and the other Amerindian MPs in the APNU and AFC must apologise to the Amerindian communities of our country for voting against the LCDS budgetary allocation which could have further improved the lives of Guyana’s Amerindians. Sidney Allicock is a sad disappointment to the people of the Annai – Amerindian District and the award given to him by Ansal Mc Al should be withdrawn, since he doesn’t deserve it on the basis that he contributed to the cutting of the LCDS budget which could have improved the lives of over 65,000 Amerindians. Sidney Allicock of the APNU has received lots of support from the Government of Guyana, both financially and otherwise, for the development of the Annai district, and is fully aware about the LCDS. His comments on the LCDS budgetary allocation cut in our parliament were shallow and he did not give any logical reason for the LCDS budgetary cut. The Amerindian MPs in both the APNU and the AFC are therefore voiceless and powerless, and more so they are unable to justify the cause of Guyana’s Amerindians in their respective parties since they are led by dictators.
Mr. Editor, the LCDS budgetary allocations cut by both APNU and the AFC is telling the Amerindians of our country that they do not deserve the following:
(1) The development of their village economies.
(2) Electricity in their homes.
(3) Laptops to improve their knowledge
(4) Land Titles, demarcation and extensions.
Mr. Editor, Guyana’s Amerindians must beware of APNU and the AFC since these political parties do not care about them.
