Guyanese man wanted for murder of Trinidad teen

GUYANA and Trinidad police are investigating the death of 18-year-old Trinidadian Nikita Ramischand, who was allegedly killed by her 27-year-old Guyanese lover in Trinidad and Tobago. Her body was discovered with the throat slashed on Wednesday evening, only yards from her father’s Maracas Valley, St Joseph home.
According to reports, the deceased is the daughter of popular Trinidad lawyer Odai Ramischand, and the cousin of Guyana’s Legal Affairs Minister Anil Nandlall.
In a telephone interview with this publication, Minister Nandlall said he was currently in Trinidad and the family was working with the police to unearth the circumstances surrounding the teen’s death.
He said investigators would be exploring all avenues to get to the bottom of the matter, and have already started reviewing surveillance cameras in the area where Nikita was found.
The alleged killer is believed to have fled Trinidad for Guyana; and according to a well-placed source, the man arrived in Guyana and police are currently searching for him.

Speculation is that the victim and her alleged killer may have been involved in a secret relationship, but Nikita’s family members were unaware of any such relationship. Sources told the media that the dead teen had recently turned down a marriage proposal from the alleged killer.
A source close to the investigations said that at around 8.50 p.m. on Wednesday evening, 18-year-old Nikita, a second-year Accounts student of the School of Business and Computer Science (SBCS), was found dead by her 22-year-old brother.

According to reports coming out of Trinidad, earlier on Wednesday night, the deceased had been left alone at home, and at around 8.50 p.m. when her elder brother arrived at the house, he could not find her. He tried calling her, but when she did not answer, he followed the sound of her ringing phone, only to find her dead in a pool of blood at the back of the house. She had three stab wounds to her chest, her throat had been slashed, her knees were skinned, and she was found lying face up.
Close relatives have described the teen as a nice person who never left the family house alone, but would always go out with her brothers and sisters. Nikita is the youngest child of the six Ramischand’s children.
Police investigators are currently looking for a 27-year-old Guyanese immigrant whom they said could provide them with information in solving this case.
