Driver gets suspended prison sentence for beating tout

ROUTE 42 mini-bus driver Lloyd Phillips alias ‘Wild Pine’ was given a six weeks suspended prison sentence yesterday, after he admitted, to Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, that he beat a tout. Phillips (no address given) pleaded guilty to unlawfully assaulting Michael Manno on April 19.
Police Sergeant Denise Booker, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant had taken a passenger out of the defendant’s and put the person in another bus.
The Prosecutor said the defendant saw what Manno did, became annoyed, took off his belt and dealt him several lashes about the body.
Phillips told the Court that the virtual complainant is a troublesome tout at the bus park and would, usually, take passengers from his bus and put them in another to get pay.
Phillips was warned that, if he commits another offence, he will have to serve the six weeks imprisonment.
