Linden Guinness round of 16 kicks off tomorrow
THANKS to a brace from Ray Bobb-Semple, Hard Knocks defeated Attackers 3-0 at the Amelia’s Ward hard court last Wednesday night, as the curtain came down on the preliminary round of this year’s second annual Banks DIH-sponsored Linden Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Futsal football competition. Semple found the back of the net in the 11th and 20th minutes and, along with R. Bristol’s goal in the 13th minute, steered his team home and into the last 16 of the tournament, where they will oppose Star Boyz in that phase which kicks off tomorrow at the Wismar/Amelia’s Ward
In other results from the night, Top Class defeated $100 Car Park 1-0, with S. Noel scoring the game’s lone goal in the 11th minute; Classic Six downed Cherokee Park 3-2 in a hard-fought encounter, with C. Nedd (5th), R. Mathews (14th) and M. Ramsay (16th) scoring for the winners, while T. Smith (2nd) and N. Akbar (10th) were the goalscorers for the losing team.
South Stars and Sheriff Squad also defeated Speightland and Barsenal 1-0, with J. Batson scoring for South Stars and C. Davis for Sheriff Squad, before Street Vybz and Pepper Skull played to a 1-1 draw, with M. Wilson and D. Williams being the respective goalscorers for this encounter. Exodus gained a walkover from Constab Warriors, even as Scheme and Wisroc were a no-show for the final game of the night.
Tomorrow’s Super-16 fixtures which kick off at 18:30hrs will see Coomacka United oppose Rough and Rugged, Pokerburg take on Goal Getters, Top Class meet Retrieve Unknowns and Trainline Warriors clash with Pepper Skull.
Following the usual Guinness 20-minute break, the second half of the night’s action will pit Amelia’s Ward Russians against The Amazing, Sheriff Squad will look to arrest El Dorado, Star Boyz will face Hard Knocks and Half Mile/One Mile will oppose Classic Six.
At stake in this year’s tournament is $500 000 and a trophy for the victorious team while the second-, third- and fourth-placed finishers will pocket $250 000, $150 000 and $100 000 respectively and the Most Valuable Player will collect a trophy.
