‘Point of order’

JUST a small note on a ‘point of order’ for the information of the public who may not be aware of, or choose to ignore the following facts:
PENSIONS:
** Senior citizens who have never worked receive…Old Age pension + waivers on water and electricity rates + free health care

**  Senior citizens who served in the military and police receive after retirement – Old Age Pension + NIS pension + Military pension (the sum total is above minimum wage) + waivers on water and electricity rates + free health care

** Senior citizens who were teachers receive after retirement – Old Age pension + NIS pension + Teachers’ pension (the sum total is above minimum wage) + waivers on water and electricity rates + free health care, etc.etc. and the list may continue.

MEDIA:
** Guyana Information Service – GIS…. An arm of the Office of the President, funded by same and existing from the 1960s to the 1970s.
Mandate:  To publicise support and information about the government of the day, its policies and programmes and to defend same.
** Guyana News Agency – GNA…An arm of Office of the President, funded by same and existing in the 1970s to the 1980s
Mandate:  To publicise support and information about the government of the day, its policies and programmes and to defend same.

** Guyana Public Communications Agency – GPCA…. An arm of the Office of the President, funded by same and existing in the 1980 to 1990s
Mandate:  To publicise support and information about the government of the day, its policies and programmes and to defend same.

** Government Information and News Agency – GINA…An arm of the Office of the President, funded by same and existing from the 2000s
Mandate:  To publicise support and information about the government of the day, its policies and programmes and to defend same.

** Guyana Chronicle (GNNL) – formerly state-owned and funded, now self sufficient

Mandate:  To publicise information about the government of the day, its policies and programmes and also give coverage to the opposition parties and to provide public service publicity where needed, required and requested.

** Guyana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) – state-owned and funded
Mandate:  To publicise information about the government of the day, its policies and programmes and also give coverage to the opposition parties and to provide public service publicity where needed, required and requested.

*** National Communications Network (NCN): state-owned and partly funded
Mandate:  To publicise support and information about the government of the day, its policies and programmes and also give coverage to the opposition parties and to provide public service publicity where needed, required and requested.
