Noise nuisance

WE, the residents of Vreed-en-Hoop on the West Demerara, suffer from noise nuisance from music being played by residents all day, on weekends, and in the evenings on week days until early hours in the morning. Complaints are made to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station and in most instances they are met with hostility. These officers need to be reminded that they are responsible for maintaining law and order and in doing so operate in the strictest confidence.
We would like to suggest that the procedure for noise nuisance be made public. The officers station at Vreed-en-Hoop have a very good strategy to frustrate senior citizens on the procedure and is not prepared to take reports via the telephone. The officers should be prepared to take a report via the telephone, record same and respond in a timely manner.
It is very costly for senior citizens to travel to the police station late at night to make a report. Also, we found this appalling, going to the station to make a report then the police return with you if there is a vehicle and this further exacerbates the problem resulting in threats from the offenders (most times these are young, energetic and high tempered individuals).
We call on the police and policy makers to strategise this national concern and come up with concrete solutions as mental health which is as a result of exposure to loud noise which is on the increase.
We plead with the responsible authorities to maintain law and order, and bring peace and tranquility in our homes.
