Bold predictions will not intimidate defending champs who are ready to defend title

ACTION in the second annual Banks DIH/Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ football competition in the mining town of Linden is set to kick off on Sunday at the Wisroc/Amelia’s Ward Bus Park from 18:00hrs. Word out of the mining town is that the Amelia’s Ward Russians are prepared and ready to launch a concerted effort that will lead them to victory against any opponent in this year’s tournament, even the defending champions Eagles.
The Russians suffered a quarterfinal defeat at the hands of Retrieve Unknowns who later went down to Eagles in the finals, but plan to turn such results around. They even embarked on an extensive and intense preparatory plan, which sources close to the team unanimously agreed will assure them victory on this occasion.
They stated that they have been involved in relentless training to achieve a high level of fitness, since big names don’t win games, but fitness, agility and goals, and in a release the Russians were adamant that this time around there will be a different result.
Also, making bold predictions were The Sheriff squad who boastfully forecast winning the title, adding that all their forces are in line to arrest and bring to justice any team whether it be the Russians, Eagles, Retrieve Unknowns, Attackers, or Hardknocks.
Oozing confidence, a spokesperson for The Sheriff team said that losing is not possible since they have regrouped and have in their attack the ‘Hitman’, who is capable of hitting his target from any distance, and the ‘Brain’ Kwesi  Johnson, who is a master planner of orchestrating all attacks.
“With the ‘Hitman’ and master planner Johnson in the line-up to bolster the squad, winning is inevitable and that we will do in this year’s tournament,” the source stated.
Despite, all the early forecasts, the defending champs lay in wait as kings to remove all pretenders to their throne and even without resorting to make forceful responses, seem to be enjoying their reign as the kings of the Futsal format in the Linden community.
Whatever the forecasts, the champs are relishing the opportunity to do it all over again and those in pursuit of their throne are being advised not to take them lightly even after one year.
“Bold predictions will not intimidate us and we will be ready to defend our title when the action gets under way on Sunday,” the source said.
With all that said, right now from the home to the streets the buzz in the community is all about Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ and fans who are expected to throng the various venues by the hundreds, can expect entertaining and enthralling Futsal football from the teams on show.
