Hindus observing period of Nav Ratra

VASANT NAV RATRA celebration started last Friday and ends on Saturday March 31, 2012 and the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha has called on all mandirs to participate in this great spiritual occasion. Nav Ratra is an opportunity to observe the infinite divine powers of the Universal Mother, Shakti Durga Mata.  Durga Devi is Prakriti Mata meaning Mother Nature. Durga Devi puja demands total expression of the Bhakti mode.
According to the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, Hindus believe God is both Shakta and Shakti, simply meaning-Mother and Father. In Bhagwad Gita Shri Krishna Bhagwan declares, “Pita Ahamasya Jagato Mata” I am both Mother and Father.
The Universal Mother will be approached in her nine aspects beginning with Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. Puja to Durga Maa initially started in the Estates and Villages.  It was known as Gaaw puja but it has grown immeasurably and today is celebrated in a massive way. The entire Hindu community exercise great constraints and discipline during this period of Nav Ratra.
