Odyssey Jet Boat Service donates scorebooks to Berbice clubs

TWENTY-FIVE cricket clubs in the Ancient County of Berbice last Friday received $50 000 worth of cricket scorebooks, thanks to Mr Feroze Barakat, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Odyssey Jet Boat Transportation Service of 171 Light Street, Georgetown.
The popular businessman who lives at Meten-Meer-Zorg is a committed sponsor of sports in Guyana and willingly agreed to provide the scorebooks when approached by the Special Events Committee of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB).
Chairman of that Committee, Hilbert Foster, who spearheaded the project stated that with the large volume of cricket to be played in Berbice this year, most clubs in the County would find it difficult to keep their heads above water due to the high cost of gear and equipment.
The BCB, he disclosed, is established and desires a more pro-active cricket development and under this fund, they would seek to assist clubs with scorebooks, cricket balls, water pitchers and dustbins among other needed items, while expressing gratitude to Mr Barakat for being the first contributor to the fund and called on others to support Berbice cricket.
Representative of the Company, Troy Khan, stated that Mr Barakat was pleased to assist the BCB because he was very impressed with the work of the Board in promoting and developing cricket in Berbice.
Expressing his own admiration of Berbice cricket, Khan pledged his company’s continued support in the future.
Representatives of the clubs, among whom were Blairmont, Shieldstown, Woodley Park, Bath, Bush Lot Challengers, Bush Lot United, No.4, Cotton Tree, Young Warriors, No.19, Berbice River and Edinburgh, expressed gratitude to Barakat and his Company for the donation of the scorebooks which would assist them to keep proper records of their cricket matches.
