RICARDO Teixeira has quit his position at FIFA with immediate effect, citing “personal reasons” for his decision.
Just one week after resigning as the head of the Brazilian Football Confederation and organiser of the 2014 World Cup, he has now stepped down from his final position in football. The 64-year-old had been in the role since 1994, and resigned in a letter sent to the South American football confederation, Conmebol. He did not expand further on the “personal reasons” for his departure.
FIFA released a statement via its official website: “FIFA has taken note today of Conmebol’s announcement that Ricardo Terra Teixeira has resigned as a member of the FIFA Executive Committee.”
The controversial figure has been accused of corruption throughout his career and becomes the fourth member to depart the 24-person executive role over such allegations in the previous two years. (Goal.com)
