BANKS DIH Limited has partnered with the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) to sponsor the One-day Rapid Chess Tournament in Linden through their Malta Supreme brand.
The tournament, which was recently launched in the conference room of the sponsor, is set to take place this Sunday at the Constabulary Recreational Hall from 11:00hrs and will feature several of the nation’s top players. Malta Supreme Brand Manager, Clayton McKenzie made the presentation of the cheque to the secretary of the Guyana Chess Federation Vishu Rampersaud during a simple ceremony at Thirst Park, witnessed by the president of the Federation, Shiv Nandalall.
Last year’s winner Malcolm Archer said he welcomed the competition from players outside of Linden adding that it would also help to promote the game in Linden. The company’s PRO Troy Peters said that his company was pleased to sponsor another Chess tournament, this time in Linden.
He added that they have a very good working relationship with the Guyana Chess Federation as the local body continues its quest to popularise the game countrywide.
“The mining town of Linden is a sports-oriented community and Banks DIH Limited will continue to support activities for the residents of this community. Sunday’s tournament is sponsored under the Banks Malta Supreme brand, a product that is ideal for sportsmen and sportswomen,” Peters concluded.
The Swiss System competition will be played in the senior and junior categories and it consists of seven rounds with a time limit of 40 minutes per game. Trophies and cash prizes are at stake.
