PRESIDENT Donald Ramotar met Chilean President Sebastian Pinera Enchenique for bilateral talks last Friday at the Royal Torarica in Paramaribo, Suriname, and discussed ways of further strengthening the two countries’ relations. President Pinera, who is also the Pro-tempore President of the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States (CELAC) was a special invited guest to the 23nd Inter- Sessional meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government.
After meeting the leaders and sharing a photo opportunity, President Pinera met privately with President Ramotar for talks and agreed to meet at another forum to continue the discussions.
President Ramotar told the Government Information Agency (GINA) that common ground was found on the issue of mining, which is very prominent in Chile, and is attracting large investments locally.
Two years ago, Chile gained worldwide attention after 33 miners who were trapped for more than two months underground in northern Chile were rescued. President Pinera was on site to overlook the successful rescue mission.
