FOUR persons were missing up to last evening after a tug with nine on board sank in the Atlantic off the Moruca River. Five have been rescued.
It has reported that a search and rescue mission has been sent to the area in search of the missing four. One of the missing men is owner of the tug and barge, John Van Sluytman. The tug, towing a barge, left Buck Hall Wednesday with mining equipment and an excavator for the North West District.
According to Demerara Waves, the vessels encountered difficulties about four miles off the Moruca River, North West District, and the tug went down on Wednesday night..
Other sources told Demwaves News that the five were rescued by a drift-seine fishing vessel and subsequently placed in a speedboat and transported to Charity, Pomeroon.
