In Berbice…

Bandits rob Guyoil fuel station on Republic Day
BANDITS struck at the Guyoil fuel station, in Palmyra, Canje, Berbice, on Republic Day.
Posing as customers, they relieved the employees on duty of $87,400 and escaped in motor vehicle with registration number of PMM 7123.
Two suspects were, subsequently, held for investigations but no charges have been laid since.
On February 23, Natasha Reddock, of Glasgow Housing Scheme, was the cashier at the outlet when two identifiable men entered. One sought to make a purchase but, as she was attempting to sell him, his accomplice put a gun to her head and demanded cash.
The man who first approached her forced Reddock into the booth where he relieved her of the money, from a drawer, which represented the afternoon sales.
Pump attendant, Shondell Ambrose, unknowingly, ventured into the area and was confronted by the men, who ordered her to lie on the floor and be quiet, prior to them escaping.
Meanwhile, residents in the neighbourhood are concerned over the repeated robbery attacks in their community. They said the location of the fuel station is a lure for robbers as there are easy getaway accesses, like the Berbice River Bridge, cane fields and the Corentyne highway.
The Guyana Chronicle was informed that the business place had no armed guard at the time it was robbed.
On June 5, 2006, five armed men shot and killed an armed guard attached to the Guyoil terminal at Heathburn, East Bank Berbice, before they fled with some $300,000. The daring heist left the community in shock.
Allan Jordan, 51, of Third Street, Fyrish Village, Corentyne had, minutes before the 15:25 hrs incident, assumed shift duty when he was gunned down.
No one has yet been prosecuted for that robbery/murder.
