Police probe three interior murders within three days
THE man who was murdered at Konawaruk Backdam, in Region 8 (Potaro/Siparuni), on February 20, has been identified as Troy Burkett, 41, of Bissessar Street, Prashad Nagar, Georgetown.
In the initial report,the police had said they were investigating the murder of the man, so far known only as ‘Tall Man’, which occurred about 18:00 hrs that day.
The investigations revealed that Burkett and another man were involved in an argument, during which he was chopped on his neck and other parts of his body and was pronounced dead on arrival at Mahdia Hospital, also in Potaro.
The suspected killer has not yet been arrested.
Meanwhile,the police has announced the arrest of the suspect in the murder of Clive Cornelius, at Imbaimadai in Region 7 (Cuyuni/Mazaruni).
The 23-year-old victim had an altercation with his assailant about 08:40 hrs on Wednesday, February 22, was assaulted with a piece of wood and was declared dead on arrival at Imbaimadai Health Centre.
The third interior murder, within three days, being probed by the police is that of Brazilian Raimundo Gomes Da Silva, 41, which took place about 03:00 hrs on Monday, February 20, as well, at Black Water, Potaro.
Police said it was, initially, disclosed that Da Silva and his killer were imbibing alcohol at a shop but, after they left there, the former was seen with blood on his clothing and it is suspected that he was stabbed in his chest by the assailant.
The injured man was taken to the Mahdia Hospital, where he, too, was pronounced dead on arrival.
The stabber fled the scene on an all terrain vehicle (ATV) and is still at large.
