On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Guyana as you celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Guyana this February 23rd. The United States values Guyana’s partnership and cooperation on many issues that are of mutual interest to our countries.  Together, we are promoting democracy and respect for human rights, supporting new initiatives that are improving the health of the Guyanese people, and through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative we are enhancing the security and prosperity of the region.
