Priyanna Ramdhani continues her dominance on badminton scene

HAVING created history a few weeks ago when she was named Guyana’s Junior Sportswoman of the year 2011, 10-year-old Priyanna Ramdhani continues to dominate the sport of badminton in her age group on the local scene. The Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) in collaboration with the National Sports Commission (NSC)-organised Annual Junior Mashramani tournament will continue at the Queen’s College courts tonight and already Priyanna has bagged one title while she will be battling for another two today.
She defeated Aaliyah Seeram 21-2, 21-2 to take the Under-11 Girls’ singles title and will be going up against Kara Abrams for the Under-13 title, after defeating Elmira Persaud 21-4, 21-5 in their semifinal encounter, while Abrams defeated Crystal Dey 22-20, 21-15 in a hard-fought encounter.
Priyanna will also be contesting for the Girls’ Under-15 singles when she goes up against Varsha Boodram, after they both defeated Nadine Jairam 21-4, 21-8 and Ambika Ramraj 21-10, 18-21, 21-15 in their respective semifinal matches.
Other winners on the second night of action were Jonathan Mangra who defeated Shane Shewjattan 21-8, 21-4, Narayan Ramdhani over Omari Joseph 21-7, 21-5, Ryan Amir who also defeated Shewjattan 21-13, 21-13 and Cecil Abrams who stopped Josh Oodit 21-10, 21-11 in the Boys’ Under-15 quarterfinals.
In the Boys’ Under-17 singles quarterfinals, Amir defeated Joseph 21-16, 21-10, Abrams overcame Anthony Murray 21-12, 21-12 and Noel Shewjattan upstaged Mangra 21-16, 23-21 while in the Under-17 Girls’ singles quarterfinals, Greer Jackson thrashed Arian Kayume: 21-7, 21-9 and Angelica Holder got past Ramraj 21-18, 21-12.
