THE quarter-final round of the annual NaMilCo Football Festival has been decided following the conclusion of the first knock-out round which ended with Fruta Conquerors and the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) being victorious on Sunday night at the Tucville Playfield. Tomorrow the action continues at the same venue from 19:00hrs as Beacon United go head-to-head with Sunburst Camptown in the opening encounter then the feature match of the night pits defending champions, Alpha United against Riddim Squad at 21:00hrs.
On Friday night the quarterfinal round concludes with another double-header when Fruta Conquerors engage GFC from 19:00hrs prior to the Guyana Football Defence (GDF) versus Santos match which kicks off at 21:00hrs.
On Sunday night the spectators witnessed Conquerors defeat Charlestown 3-1 in the feature battle while GFC needled Flamingo in the starter showdown.
Conquerors captain Eon Alleyne led from the front with a 20th minute goal which was the first blood to be drawn. They were ahead for the remainder of the first half that saw the opposition try their best to contain them.
In the second half, Marco Marcus found the back of the net in the 50th minute to help inject some bit of comfort about his team’s play as their lead doubled. However, Charlestown managed to pull one back in the 59th minute thanks to Duereon Benjamin, to keep Conquerors on their toes.
It soon became a two-point game again when Kwame La Fleur scored in the 65th minute. The game held that position until regulation time.
The opening match of the night had GFC and Flamingo evenly contesting their skills for superiority, but it was GFC, who had the lone goal scored by Anson Lynch in the 15th minute, who reigned supreme.
