ORGANISATIONAL hiccups strangled the opening of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) 2012 league with teams failing to show up for matches because of poor communication between the GABA and its affiliates as jump-ball started on Saturday night with one of two matches. Secretary of GABA Kester Gomes told Chronicle Sport that communication was established between all the teams participating for the opening fixtures of the league and it was shocking to know that at starting-time, the same teams were calling to inquire if the matches were still on..
He added that the Burnham Court facility is at present hit by an electrical problem with the lamps not working and GABA has sought an electrical contracting firm to execute repairs and maintenance to the venue.
On Saturday night GABA had to start the league with additional lighting supplied by Star Party Rental Service, but the lighting seemed inadequate for the matches.
