PEOPLE’S Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Councillor of the Region Two(Pomeroon/Supenaam) Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Ms. Arlene Boyant has called for the Department of Education to take its truancy campaign to the Pomeroon River. Speaking at the first 2012 statutory meeting on Tuesday, she said the action is needed in both the upper and lower Pomeroon River, because many students are not attending school in the riverine communities.
Boyant, who is from the Pomeroon area, said many male students are also migrating to the interior to work in the gold mining industry.
Regional Chairman, Mr. Parmanand Persaud told Councillors that he is concerned about young people and their education and, consequently, the drive will be intensified and the RDC would be, seriously, looking to get all children of school age to attend classes.
