CHAIRMAN of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Parmanand Persaud, has assured that quick action will be taken to correct several problems at Suddie Public Hospital. He gave the assurance after listening to several complaints, concerning service to the public at the institution, by Alliance for Change (AFC) Councillor, Mr. Naith Ram at the first 2012 sitting of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) meeting on Tuesday.
Persaud said changes will be made before the end of the week.
One of the main concerns raised by the AFC Councillor is the slow attendance to emergencies by doctors.
Ram lamented that doctors on call do not respond immediately during the night and nurses have to telephone them, after which, they sometimes take one hour to reach the Emergency Department.
The Councillor, who is a hire car driver, said he himself had to wait with a patient for nearly one hour, one night, before a doctor attended.
Ram suggested that doctors on call should be accommodated close to the Emergency Department at night, so they can respond quickly to patients needing emergency medical attention.
Another problem raised at the RDC meeting was the long wait, by patients to see doctors during the day. The AFC Councillor said some patients have friends at the hospital and enter through the back door and get attention without having to sit and wait for long like others.
