IN a letter to the Stabroek News Editor on Monday, December 19, 2011, Mayor Hamilton Green had suggested 20 things that the new President and his Cabinet should investigate. Those are indeed very pertinent areas that need to be fully investigated. However, I would like to add a few other areas that our new government should revisit, and bring its findings to the Guyana public and more so Hamilton Green.
(1) Enquiring into the murder of Walter Rodney. The world is of the opinion that the Burnham-led PNC was responsible for this. Mayor Hamilton Green, who was one of Burnham’s chief lieutenants in the party at that time can be an important man in the enquiry.
(2) Enquiry into the Ballot Box Martyrs. Mayor Green was one of the leading architects of successive, rigged elections under the PNC Burnham and Hoyte-led administrations. Mayor Green can shed some light.
(3) The failed Mazaruni Hydro Power project and the UMRP road. Who should be prosecuted for squandering over three hundred million US dollars on this project that never saw one mile of road or one kilowatt of electricity? Mayor Green should have a lot of information as he was one of the high-ranking vice-presidents at the time. Numerous heavy-duty equipment that have been abandoned by the then PNC government can still be found covered with bushes.
(4) Enquiry into the famous ‘power barge fiasco’. The investigators will find Green and Corbin very important in their investigation.
(5) Enquire into the disenfranchising of the Guyanese people by staging successive rigged elections. The top brass of the Burnham and Hoyte-led PNC, who are still surviving today should be hauled before the courts for such a callous act. The following should be called to assist in investigations: Green, Corbin, Van-West Charles, Cammie Ramsaroop, Sase Narine Singh, David Granger, Carl Greenidge, Faith Harding etc.
(6) Investigate the failed glass factory project that never produced any glass. Similar enquiries into the leather tannery and the bicycle factory. Find out who was responsible and how much money was lost. Green can assist.
(7) The new President and his Cabinet should investigate why there was no Auditor General’s Report presented in Parliament for the last 10 years of the PNC administration. This enquiry can bring out important information on how cash was squandered under the guise of the Ministry of National Mobilisation.
(8) What about party paramountcy? Everybody had to swear allegiance to the illegal PNC regime. To get jobs the first criterion was to get a PNC party card. People were reduced to begging by forming long lines to buy soap, butter, oil etc. Who were the people running the KSIs? What happened to the Overwinning Market in Berbice? Did it ever function? What was the amount wasted or squandered on this market? What about the grocery outlet at Bermine that is presently covered with bush? Mayor Green can assist in these investigations.
(9) Set up an enquiry into the Jonestown massacre. Who brought Jim Jones to Guyana under secret deals and clandestine operations? Who were benefiting from these deals? Possibly Mayor Green can shed some light here because he had visited Jonestown many times as a special guest of Jim Jones.
Sir, Mayor Green is absolutely unfit to call for any investigation into wrongdoings. How suddenly this godly man pretends to be good? Mayor Green is an old worn-out tiger whose stripes are indelibly ingrained into his body. Mayor Green is the same old Green. He has not changed. He lacks the ability and moral rectitude to call for any form of investigation. He has indeed cited good areas for President Ramotar to deal with, but we need to investigate all. This might be a good idea to bring about friendly relations between the stalwarts of the PNC and the PPP. They may all be in the same cell in jail, sharing the same toilet, eating from the same plate, etc.
Green lacks moral rectitude to call for probe
