… two players to receive training in excess of $400 000 each
SUPPORT has not yet ceased for this year’s annual NAMILCO-sponsored Football Festival since Global Technology Inc., one of the leading institutions of computer learning made a dazzling move by upgrading the two scholarship awards presented to the tournament. For eight consecutive years, Global Technology – the authorised agent for Apple Hardware/Software products – has awarded two promising young players the Foundation course in computer training at an individual cost of $30 000, but Managing Director George Melville decided the recipient should complete the training in computers at a cost of in excess of $400,000.
The former Queen’s College student and later Cambridge University graduate seemed intent on creating the foundation for the successful candidates to become adequately efficient in an area that is quite relevant in the world today and is without a doubt a stickler for higher academic achievements.
On Thursday, Melville presented Club secretary Lavern Fraser-Thomas with the Certificate of Commitment, in the presence of president Marlan Cole, parent Daniel Thomas and player Dwayne Lawrence.
Additionally, Melville offered to conduct a one-day Course for players who participate in the Fruta Conquerors Summer Camp scheduled for later this year.
Speaking at the simple ceremony, Melville commented on the previous package, saying that it gives the recipient a start, but not the ideal security for a bright career, unless the individual decides to pursue the field further.
It was on that premise that he decided to make a more tangible offer that will ensure those who benefit from the generosity are sufficiently equipped to compete in a working environment that is highly competitive.
Responding on behalf of the organising club, Cole, while evidently surprised by the improved sponsorship, expressed his appreciation and satisfaction with the assistance and promised to ensure that those identified for the scholarships grab the opportunity with both hands and attend the sessions to the fullest extent, saying it was a once-in-a-lifetime offer for both players.
