MINISTER within the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Alli Baksh has given the assurance that farmers affected by the recent flooding in the Pomeroon will be assisted by Government to resume cultivation. He said they will be given seeds, other planting materials and insecticide, so they can, again, plant their farms that were destroyed by flood waters, caused mainly by the recent heavy rainfall.
Minister Baksh and Minister of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran visited the upper and lower Pomeroon River and met with farmers while inspecting flooded farms.
Baksh said an assessment team is currently in the Pomeroon meeting with farmers and inspecting damages.
He also reported that a D6 bulldozer was dispatched to Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) to help with the preparation of access dams so farmers can transport their paddy from fields to factories immediately after harvesting.
