AS part of the activities to commemorate the 18th anniversary of the Guyana Relief Council, its annual photographic exhibition was opened yesterday on the ground floor of the Guyana National Library. The exhibition is one of several activities, including a church service and fund-raising dinner, planned by the council to celebrate another year since it came into existence in 1994.
Head of the GRC, Yvonne Hinds, who officially opened the exhibition, said that council will continue to support victims of natural and man-made disasters.
“This activity is a chronicle of the 18 years of our service to the people of Guyana…so the doors are open for members of the public to come in and see the work we do at the GRC, and how they can contribute in making a difference in someone’s life,” Mrs. Hinds said.
The GRC is a non-profit organisation that helps victims who suffer from disasters such as fire, flood and storms.
The council also provides temporary shelter for victims who are displaced from their homes due to disasters.
The work of the council is funded by local and international supporters, a monthly government subvention and fund-raising activities.
“All of us are born with talents and the ability to give in various ways and means…while some give monetary donations others would volunteer their time and skills,” Mrs. Hinds said.
The exhibition will be open daily at 10:00hrs until February 18.
The exhibition yesterday attracted members of the diplomatic corps and senior government officials.
