Accused in multi-million dollar robberies remanded

MULTI-MILLION dollar robbery accused Mark Lee Young was remanded to prison, by Magistrate Roby Benn last Friday, on two indictable charges of robberies under arms committed at West Coast Berbice, recently. He also faced two charges, each, of being in possession of a firearm without licences and one in relation to ammunition.
The minibus driver, of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, appeared at the Fort Wellington Court, also at West Coast Berbice.
Police Inspector Grace Bristol, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for the accused, citing the nature and gravity of the offences.
Lee Young is alleged to have, in company of other and armed men, robbed Chandrawattie Ram of Ram’s Jewellery and Pawn Shop, at Rosignol Public Road, West Bank Berbice, of 41 chains, 45 bangles, 142 rings and 17 bands, all golden, valued $15M.
The court was told that, while committing the crime, the accused was carrying a .32 Taurus pistol and nine live rounds and a .32 Taurus revolver with four matching bullets.
The virtual complainant and her son, Bisham, were in the business place when Lee Young forced them to lie on the floor before robbing them.
Meanwhile, Lee Young is also charged with having, on January 10, accompanied by others, robbed Zulika Subhan, a housewife, of two bangles, two pairs earrings, one gold band, one chain, a ring and a watch, all golden, worth a total of $327,000.
He is also accused of robbing Zamena Subhan of a diamond ring, a gold chain, a Samsung cell phone, a gold band and cash, making a total loss, to her, of $545,000.
Lastly, Lee Young is on another indictable charge, alleging that he robbed Wazim Sherrif, of a gold band, a gold chain, a .32 semi-pistol and cash adding up to $499,000.
