Following misconduct report…

Child Protection officials visit Mae’s, offer guidance
OFFICIALS of the Child Care and Protection Agency (CC&PA) paid a visit to Mae’s School, in Subryanville, Georgetown, on Thursday morning, with the sole aim of enlightening staff there of its role and the need for teachers to protect children.
But, although both visitors and the visited confirmed the engagement occurred, neither of the parties was willing to elaborate on the discussions.
How to deal with reports of child molestation; who should these be communicated to first; what can be done to protect children becoming victims of such actions and effects on their future following those episodes, were among the topics discussed, the Guyana Chronicle learnt.
This newspaper had previously reported that the CC&PA and the Ministry of Education were investigating a case of sexual misconduct at the private school, located at Lots 9 and 19 Third Avenue, Subryanville and that a male teacher was dismissed as a result of the allegation.
However, there were conflicting reports as to exactly why the firing took place, whether it was because of the way he, habitually, looked at female students or that he had fondled a female student.
The Chronicle was able to ascertain that the same teacher was employed by Kaieteur News at the time of the accusation against him and that he was immediately dismissed, according to Editor-in-Chief Adam Harris.
Mae’s is well known for its reputation of having, in its student population, the children of very high-profile members of society and no one in authority there was willing to speak on the issue.
Meanwhile, the CC&PA visit was  a result of an invitation from the school’s administration, facilitated by CC&PA Director, Ms. Ann Greene.
