Three injured in motorcycle accident – at Stabroek Square

MOTOR cyclist Idingo Mc Kenzie of 18909 Critchlow Street, Tucville, South Georgetown was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in a semi-conscious state following a collision with a pedestrian just after noon yesterday in the vicinity of the Stabroek Market. Up to press time, the pedestrian, male and of East Indian descent, was not yet identified.

Odessa Jack was the pillion rider on Mc Kenzie’s motorcycle, CG 1129, at the time of the incident. Jack appeared to be fairly unhurt, despite a few bruises. She related to the Guyana Chronicle that she and her child’s father (Mc Kenzie) were heading west along Croal Street en route to the Vendors’ Arcade on Water Street when they noticed a man staggering along the roadway.

They tried desperately to avoid hitting him, because he looked to be somewhat intoxicated at the time. Despite the evasive measure taken by Mc Kenzie, the man ended up in the path of the motorcycle.
The unidentified pedestrian sustained a broken leg from the incident. Odessa Jack said the impact flung her several feet into the air before she landed and rolled several inches along the roadway. The motorcycle dragged Mc Kenzie for some distance before coming to rest in a nearby drain. He has suffered a hit to his head and sustained several bruises about the body, including his face, arms, knees and back.
His sister, who subsequently arrived at the hospital, explained that family members were informed by the doctor that Mc Kenzie was seriously injured and was bleeding through his mouth, but was not in a critical state.
Meanwhile, Sean Sealy, the driver who brought Mc Kenzie to the hospital in motor car PHH 6048, had to place cardboards in the back seat of his vehicle because of the extent to which Mc Kenzie was bleeding from his wounds. Sealy said he felt compelled to render assistance to the injured man and his girlfriend after he realised that the two persons were involved in an accident and were just lying on the roadway. He was incredulous that other drivers and vehicles on the scene had not opted to offer any assistance to the injured.
Motor car HB 6168 brought the injured pedestrian to the hospital mere seconds after Sean Sealy had arrived with McKenzie and Jack. The driver of that vehicle, who opted to remain anonymous, also expressed sentiments similar to Sealy’s.
According to Jack, she and Mc Kenzie were each wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Police have reportedly commenced investigating the accident.
