Mother of three charged with mistreating, abandoning children

AMANDA Daniels, 29, a mother of three, appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive- Hamilton on Wednesday, charged with mistreatment and abandonment of her children. It is alleged that the defendant, a single parent of Lot 65 Princes Street, Lodge, Georgetown left Gordon Daniels (two months), Sasha Daniels (three years) and Gavin Daniels (nine years) without adult supervision at their residence on numerous occasions and the children were often cruelly mistreated by her.
The woman pleaded not guilty to the charges and made an application for bail, which was granted at $7,000.
In her defence, she claimed that, on one occasion when the welfare officers went to her house, she had just left to buy things for the children and another time she had gone to collect money from the children’s father.
Daniels also stated that the neighbour who called the welfare officers has some issues with her and, often, demands cash from her. However, she has not given the woman any for a while and the woman now wants to spite her by having her children taken away from her.
Daniels was, however, unable to give the court reasons for her neighbour demanding money from her.
The defendant is to return to court on February 10.
Meantime, the children are in the custody of the Child Care and Protection Agency.
